Policies

It is our goal to create a safe and nurturing environment for all of the youth in our care. To that end, the Edgefield Youth Ministry employs the following volunteer training and screening procedures:

  • A volunteer must be a member of Edgefield Church.

  • All potential volunteers must: 1) fill out the Edgefield’s Volunteer and Teacher Application and have it approved by an elder; 2) read and affirm our Youth Protection Policy; and 3) pass a nationwide background check. Volunteers are rescreened every 24 months.

  • Volunteers will never be alone with a student. If a private conversation is needed, it will take place in a public space with high visibility.

  • Volunteers meeting with students for discipleship purposes are encouraged to meet in a public space at the church building or with multiple students in a public area if meeting off campus. Any time a volunteer meets with a student off campus they must contact parents/guardians for permission.

  • Any 1-1 communication with students will be brief and volunteers will not communicate with students after 9:00pm. Longer conversations will be moved to a group message with other leaders, students, or parents involved.
